The Office of Disability Access truly looks forward to working with UNT's online students to assist them with accessing all of the amazing academic and non-academic opportunites our university has to offer! This includes services and supports through the Office of Disability Access!

ODA for Online Students:

Accommodations

Academic and non-academic accommodations are available to face-to-face/in-person, hybrid, and fully online students! All of the services that ODA has to offer are available to online students including (but not limited to): accommodation provision, communication access services, the assistive technology loan program, alternative formats, alternative testing, notetaking/Access to Lecture, and more! The difference is that sometimes one setting, such as face-to-face classes, may impose different barriers than an online setting so accommodations would not necessarily be the same.

We encourage online students to register with the Office of Disability Access as soon as they are admitted to the university or determine that they would like to pursue disability-related accommodations. The main focus of our office is academic accommodations; however, we are more than happy to work with student to ensure they have equal access to everything UNT has to offer! UNT is committed to ensuring an accessible experience for ALL students.

Register for Services

Online students follow the same registration process for accommodations as all students. They:

  • Submit a registration form online for accommodations in the AIM portal
  • Upload, fax, deliver, or email disability documentation to the ODA
  • Attend a registration meeting

Our Coordinators are available to meet with online students for their registration meeting in-person, on Zoom, or via phone. During the registration meeting, the Coordinator will advise the student on how to access their accommodations and utilize all of the different service areas ODA has to offer students.

Again, accommodations may look a little different for online students, but they are still readily available! For example, many online classes do not tend to need a note-taker because all of the notes are provided online. However, there are still cases when a note-taker is needed and our Notetaking team would work directly with the student if this was an approved accommodation.

We look forward to working with online students to utilize their accommodations to reduce their barriers to the online academic and non-academic environment at UNT. However, accommodations is not all that ODA does! We have student-led disability related programming/organizations, as well as virtual events hosted by ODA staff. Read on to learn more!
