Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Requirement 

Please call us at 940-565-2333, option 2, to schedule an appointment for TB testing.

UNT requires all incoming International and Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) students who were previously diagnosed or treated for TB or are considered at high risk for TB, as defined by the WHO or CDC, to be screened for TB. High-risk students must be screened for TB no earlier than six months before their first term of study on the UNT campus and will not be able to register for their second-semester classes without being screened and, if necessary, tested. After completing the screening form, some students may be required to have a TB blood test. Students will be notified via the SHWC's patient portal if testing is required and what steps are necessary to complete testing.

Students may either be tested at the SHWC or provide documentation to SHWC verifying that they were previously tested for TB in the United States and report the results of their TB blood test using the Tuberculosis Screening Record for Outside Providers form. The documentation must clearly show the date the test was given and when it was read.

Documentation for the TB test will be accepted if TB testing was done in the United States no more than six (6) months before the first day of the student's first term of study at the University.

Students who fail to meet TB requirements will have a registration block placed on their account.   

All communication after the screening form has been completed will be through the patient portal. Students will need to check their messages there for any further information.

Required Steps:

• Complete the Patient TB Screening Form on the online patient portal at myosh.unt.edu as soon as possible.
• A nurse will review your form and contact you if further blood testing is needed. Students will be notified via the SHWC's patient portal if testing is required and the steps necessary to complete testing. Students will be required to complete additional steps if a test is positive or unclear.
• Once the screening process is complete, the SHWC will remove the TB block from your student account.

The University's Responsibilities 

UNT must enforce the requirement that you have adequate health insurance coverage continuously during your UNT residence. UNT residence is defined as that continuous period from initial orientation and enrollment or employment, including holidays, through graduation or final separation from the university.

International Student Responsibilities

• International students are required by the University to provide proof of adequate health insurance coverage each time they register for classes.
• International students may waive the University endorsed student insurance policy in only three instances:
  • An international student has comparable employment insurance through a U.S. employer group policy.
  • An international student has comparable coverage through the employment of a parent or relative through a U.S. employer group policy.
  • An international student has a government sponsorship. *These waivers are processed in the Sponsored Student Office, Marquis Hall, room 106.

Students must also provide Medical Evacuation and Repatriation Coverage, available as a separate policy through the University-endorsed insurance carrier, United Healthcare Student Resources.
