Established in 1968 to promote inter-institutional collaboration, the Federation provides degree-seeking graduate students access to the combined graduate course offerings of UNT, TWU, and ETAMU, as well as the convenience of seamless cross-registration with the assistance of Federation Representatives in each graduate school. When taking courses through the Federation, students earn credit at their home institution; the courses appear on their home institution transcript, and they pay tuition at their home institution.

When mentioned, "home institution" mentions the University the student is admitted to and primarily attending, and "hosting institution" references the institution who is teaching the course/officially hosting the course. For example, a UNT student taking a course at TWU would have a "home institution" of UNT and a "hosting institution" of TWU.

The University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, and East Texas A&M University have established the following process to serve students enrolled in Federation courses:

  1. Student should register for accommodations at their home institution.
  2. Student should notify the disability accommodations office at their home institution as soon as they intend to enroll or do enroll in a Federation course.
  3. Student should complete a third-party release for the Director at the hosting institution's disability accommodation office. Each institution has their own process for how to complete a third-party release.

  4. The home institution will send the hosting institution an email, stating Student will be taking a Federation course at their institution.
  5. Student will then participate in an expedited intake process at the hosting institution.
    1. If Student would like a copy of their own records and approved accommodations at their home institution, Student can work with their home institution to receive them. The goal is to support the student in a barrier-free process in requesting accommodations for Federation courses.
