Established in 1968 to promote inter-institutional collaboration, the Federation provides degree-seeking graduate students access to the combined graduate course offerings of UNT, TWU, and ETAMU, as well as the convenience of seamless cross-registration with the assistance of Federation Representatives in each graduate school. When taking courses through the Federation, students earn credit at their home institution; the courses appear on their home institution transcript, and they pay tuition at their home institution.

When mentioned, "home institution" mentions the University the student is admitted
to and primarily attending, and "hosting institution" references the institution who
is teaching the course/officially hosting the course. For example, a UNT student taking
a course at TWU would have a "home institution" of UNT and a "hosting institution"
of TWU.
