Guidelines for individuals who test positive for COVID-19

As of April 29, 2022. the University will no longer offer contact tracing for positive test cases. Individuals who test positive for the virus should follow current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for quarantine/isolation and follow the treatment advice of their medical provider. Students, faculty, and staff should handle COVID-19-related absences the same way as any other health-related absence.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

The SHWC worked diligently to be an approved administrator of COVID-19 vaccines. The State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services allocates vaccines to approved sites on an as-needed basis. The SHWC received its first allotment of the vaccine on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, and started vaccinating eligible UNT students, faculty, and staff on Wednesday, March 24, 2021.

To help with national vaccination efforts, UNT joined the White House and U.S. Department of Education COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge. In July 2021, UNT launched a vaccine incentive program for students, faculty, and staff. That program ended in early September 2021.

Starting May 16, 2022, the SHWC returned to pre-COVID-19 operations. This means the SHWC will only serve students and will no longer offer COVID testing, vaccines, or boosters for faculty and staff. Currently, the SHWC offers COVID-19 vaccine on a limited basis for UNT students. Starting March 29, 2022, first and second doses of the COVID-19 monovalent vaccine will be during scheduled walk-in clinics only at the SHWC Clinic on the second floor of Chestnut Hall. This change is to minimize the waste of the COVID vaccine. Vaccine availability will be determined by the vaccine allocated by the State of Texas. UNT students who received their first dose of the COVID vaccine elsewhere can receive their second dose from the SHWC but will need to provide proof of their first vaccination, including the date of initial vaccination and the manufacturer of the vaccine they received.

COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shots

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced COVID-19 vaccine booster shot recommendations for certain populations who received a COVID vaccine series.

  • CDC recommends everyone stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccination, including all primary series monovalent doses and boosters for their age group:
    • People ages 12 years and older are recommended to receive one updated Pfizer or Moderna (bivalent) booster.
      • This includes people who have received all primary series doses and people who have previously received one or more original (monovalent) boosters.
      • At this time, people aged 12 years to 17 years can only receive the updated Pfizer bivalent booster.
  • Individuals 12 years and older who were vaccinated outside of the United States, can get a booster 5 months after completing one of the following criteria
    • all recommended doses of the World Health Organization emergency use listing (WHO-EUL) COVID-19 vaccine not approved or authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) OR
    • mix and match series composed of any combination of FDA-approved, FDA-authorized, or WHO-EUL COVID-19 vaccines

Things To Bring To Your Vaccination Appointment

1.    Government-issued photo ID
2.    Insurance Card (if you have medical insurance)
3.    COVID vaccination card showing doses already received (at SHWC or elsewhere)

UNT COVID-19 Update for April 29, 2022

UNT health and safety officials regularly review federal and state guidance and recommend how best to protect our campus community during a health crisis. The health and safety of our UNT community is always a top priority, and the safety committee has guided us with care since 2020.

Although infection rates have lessened on campus and locally, individuals should remain vigilant in protecting their health. This includes self-monitoring for symptoms, making informed decisions about high-risk situations, and self-isolating after a positive test. University health officials will continue to monitor community spread of the virus and can return to its expanded COVID-19 offerings for the entire university community if a need arises.

Having shifted into a more controlled phase of the virus, the university is returning to pre-pandemic operations in several areas. Current and upcoming changes to note are below:

  • As of April 29, 2022, the university will no longer offer contact tracing for positive test cases. Individuals who test positive for the virus should follow current CDC guidelines for quarantine/isolation and follow the treatment advice of their primary care physician.

  • Students, faculty, and staff should handle COVID-19-related absences the same way they handle any other health-related absence.

  • On May 16, 2022, the SHWC will return to pre-COVID-19 operations. This means the SHWC will only serve students and will no longer offer testing, vaccines or boosters for faculty and staff. As a result, the vaccine registry also will close on May 13, 2022. Students can continue to receive testing, vaccines, and boosters at the SHWC, but will need to make an appointment that could include an insurance co-pay just like any other healthcare appointment.

  • Curative COVID-19 testing sites on campus will close on May 31, 2022.
