About

The Student Health and Wellness Center conveniently offers testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) on a walk-in basis. Students can get tested year-round without an appointment. If a student doesn't qualify for Walk-In STI Testing, they can make an appointment with a medical provider for more options. A few times each year, Walk-In STI Testing is offered for half-price.

FAQs

What if I have STI symptoms or have been told a sexual partner has an STI?
Patients with STI symptoms or who have been told  that a recent sexual partner has an STI are strongly encouraged to make an appointment  with a medical provider for more thorough discussion, exam, and/or treatment.
How long should I wait to get tested after a possible STI exposure?
Please schedule an appointment so a medical provider can discuss your situation and tell you when you should get tested.
How should I prepare for testing?
Since blood and urine samples will be taken for testing, we recommend you have a well-balanced meal and drink plenty of fluids before coming in.
How will I get my test results?
Patients are only contacted if they have positive or abnormal results.  We do not contact patients with negative results, but a copy of the report is available through the Online Patient Portal.
What happens if I get a positive result?

We call the number listed on testing paperwork and provide additional information about treatment and/or additional testing. If we cannot reach a patient by phone, we send a certified letter to the current mailing address on file with UNT, which may be a parents' address.

If a patient has a positive or inconclusive HIV or syphilis result, we are required to submit blood for additional state-mandated confirmatory testing.  The only exception is for patients with a previously identified case of syphilis.  Patients are responsible for any additional charges that result from this testing.

Can I request only part of the standard testing package or get tested for herpes or other STIs?
No, all walk-in STI packages include testing for chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV, and syphilis. Patients wanting individual STI tests or testing for STIs not included in the standard package should make an appointment with a medical provider.
